A Memorial Service to Honor Pets on “Love Your Pet Day”
On a day focused on showing extra love to the animals in our lives, the Service of Remembrance’s candle lighting ceremony helps pet owners honor beloved pets who have passed away.
PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland-area pet owners will come together to honor deceased animal companions at the Service of Remembrance, a special memorial service and candle lighting ceremony presented by Dignified Pet Services in partnership with DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital. The free event pays tribute to the deep impact that animals have on our lives, encouraging families to honor the loving bond they shared with their departed pet. The event will be held on February 20, a day appropriately named “Love Your Pet Day.”
“Animals play such a meaningful, special role in our lives,” said Dignified Pet Services’ Tara Pascoe. “Giving people an avenue to honor their memory is important.” A long-time event partner, DoveLewis runs a Pet Loss Support Program that provides people and families with free grief support group meetings and memorial art workshops. “Pets are family. We’re proud to provide healthy outlets for families to grieve, find comfort, and celebrate the lives of their animals,” said DoveLewis President and Chief Executive Officer, Ron Morgan.
All community members are invited to attend the event where they will hear stories from DoveLewis technician, Sarah Harris, and pet owner, Debbie Arbeeny, light a candle to honor their pet, and listen to moving musical performances by Ian James, Danielle McDonald, and Brick and Mindy Street. Therapy dogs from DoveLewis’ canine-assisted therapy program will be in attendance to greet guests and provide comfort.
