DoveLewis Westie Walk on Saturday Benefits Financial Aid for Pet Emergencies
PORTLAND, Ore. – This Saturday, August 25, DoveLewis hosts the annual Westie and Friends Walk. Hundreds of Westies (West Highland Terriers), along with other canine friends and their humans, will participate in a 1.5-mile walk through Northwest Portland to benefit the DoveLewis Velvet Assistance Fund for low-income families.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Wallace Park (1600 NW 25th Ave.), and the walk starts at 10 a.m. This year’s event includes a doggy costume contest, plus several stops along the route for human and doggy treats.
DoveLewis’ donor-supported Velvet Assistance Fund provides financial assistance to help cover the cost of emergency veterinary treatment for qualified low-income families. Last year, thanks to this fund, DoveLewis treated 1,568 pets of low-income families facing emergencies. The need for this fund is increasing steadily, and the Westie and Friends Walk is a part of our commitment to sustain and grow the fund.
All breeds of dogs are welcome to attend. Preregister online at dovelewis.org for $20 per dog; event-day registration is $25 per dog. Humans are free. The event is presented by Kaiser Permanente.
