Westie Walk Benefits Low-Income Families Facing Pet Emergencies
PORTLAND, Ore.—This Saturday, August 29, hundreds of Westies (West Highland Terriers) and their owners and friends will participate in a 1.5-mile walk through Northwest Portland to benefit the DoveLewis Velvet Assistance Fund for low-income families. All breeds of dogs are welcome to attend. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Wallace Park in Northwest Portland. The walk starts at 10 a.m. Click here to pre-register online for $20 per dog.
DoveLewis’ donor-funded Velvet Assistance Fund, which has just been increased by 67 percent to $232,000 for the year, is how the non-profit is able to provide financial assistance to help cover the cost of veterinary treatment in an emergency to qualified low-income families who visit the Northwest Portland hospital.
Recipients of funds from the Velvet Assistance Fund are never asked to pay the money back. Last year, thanks to this fund, DoveLewis was able to treat 1,265 pets of low-income families facing emergencies. And this year, with the increased funding, we will be able to help even more families and pets in need.
