Take a Tour of DoveLewis

DoveLewis encourages the community to tour our NW Portland facility (1945 NW Pettygrove) and learn more about emergency and ICU care for animals. Learn about the programs at DoveLewis and see what happens on our hospital floor.

Tours are free, and happen twice a month:
1st Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm
and
3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm

Organizations and groups may also schedule private tours for groups of up to 8 people.

Please keep in mind:

  • You may not touch or handle the sick animals in the hospital.
  • You may see blood, animals who are obviously in pain, or graphic life-saving measures on the hospital floor.
  • You may come into contact with people who are emotional and/or grieving.
  • An animal emergency may occur during the tour in which case the tour may need to be postponed or stopped at that time.
  • The ICU floor is off limits to tour groups, but there are big windows through which you will be able to see the patients and staff.
If you are interested in attending one of these tours, please contact Reed Coleman at: 503.535.3380 or rsvp@dovelewis.org.
In the email, please include your name, mailing address and a phone number where you can be reached.

Tours for Children

We love to help children learn about the magic of the human-animal bond, and to appropriately educate them about what goes on at DoveLewis.  We understand that some of what happens in our hospital is not appropriate for children. For that reason, we do not offer tours for children under the age of 12. All children who tour DoveLewis must be accompanied by an adult. We prefer that groups of children between the ages of 12 and 14 will be limited to 10 including accompanied adults.

Children's Code of Conduct

As a visitor to DoveLewis, children touring the NW DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital agree:

  • To behave appropriately in a business environment (no yelling, pushing, or running)
  • To keep voices down while in the Business and Programs offices and in the hospital
  • Not to touch staff pets without permission from the staff members
  • Never to touch the animals in the hospital
  • To let the tour leader know if I see something that upsets or scares me

If you are interested in organizing a children’s tour, please contact Reed Coleman at: 503.535.3380.
